Back in February Vivo unveiled the Apex -- a smartphone with bezels so slim that it's the first phone we've seen that is arguably a trueedge-to-edge display. Now, five months later, that phone looks like it's becoming a reality: Vivo just released a teaser for an unveiling event in Shanghai on June 12.

The coy video holds back on the details about the forthcoming phone, though we get a glimpse at the gorgeous large display with no bezels. We also see the front-facing camera that pops out from the top -- the signature feature that eliminates the need for any "notch."

Along with the save-the-date message, Vivo gets in a plug about being the official smartphone of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The Apex, which we got some hands-on time with last February, featured the bottom half of the screen acting as a fingerprint sensor, thanks to tech under the glass. Vivo just released a phone with the same technology, the X21, which has a dedicated spot for the in-screen sensor. We recently reviewed the X21 and found that while the novel fingerprint sensor works, it is slower than a traditional fingerprint reader.

It seems that Vivo is taking pole position in the race to build an all-screen device, but there's stiff competition on the horizon. Lenovo is teasing the bezel-less Z5 for June, and the Pixel 3 might be following with a similar design in the fall.
